Cloisonne Workshop
Instructor: Tom Ellis
Date: December 12, 2009
Time: 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Cost: $80.00 per person (Includes all enamels used on project)
Materials Fee: Apprx. $10
(Pending copper choice and length of fine silver cloisonne wire - you may also bring your own materials if you choose)
Workshop Description:
Learn the jewel-like technique of cloisonne enamel. Fine silver ribbon wire will be formed into linear designs. Bending techniques, bending jigs, and how-to-make silver balls with a torch will be demonstrated. The linear wire design is fused by heat to a prefired enamel ground. Silver and/or gold foil will be used under transparent enamel for added highlights.
Transparent and/or opaque enamels are wet-packed into the cloisons. Two or three applications of enamel may be necessary for depth of color and shading. Shading techniques will be shown. The cells usually are filled to the top of the wires, fired, then ground to an even surface. The enamel is then re-fired to bring back a glossy surface.
The finished piece would be suitable as a pendant, brooch, earrings or a small panel/plaque.
Beginning, intermediate or advanced - all skill levels WELCOME!
